Hope everyone is off to a good start this year! Now that the weather is turning nice and spring is around the corner, we are going to start holding our meetings again. At the next meeting, which we are planning to hold in May, we will discuss and vote on the frequency of meetings for the rest of the year. Please be prepared to give you input on this matter.
Also, we have two new CMPD officers assigned to our neighborhood. They will be speaking at our May meeting. Please check back in the next couple of weeks for the date and time of the next meeting.
I want to give you an update on the homicide that took place in the Woodlands last month. I have spoken with CMPD and this was NOT an act of random violence. They are continuing to investigate but it appears that the incident was tied to and a result of the lifestyle that this family lives. It's very sad, as they have small children living in the home. I don't really have any details but it appears that there was inappropriate activity (and possibly illegal activity) being conducted at the home. Just wanted to provide you with an update. It's very frightening when these incidents take place so close to him. Continue to keep your guard up, your eyes open and protect your property and yourself.
Please also be aware that there are numerous scams going on throughout neighborhoods in Charlotte. One that I have heard about is during the day, someone will ring your doorbell and if you don't answer, they will break in. If you aren't home, they will clean you out but if you are, this could be very dangerous. Please do not open your doors for people that you don't know! The second scam that I've heard about is where the robbers are working as a team. One of them will ring your front door bell, while the other person comes to the back of the house and breaks in. Please beware. This has been happening a lot in South Charlotte and come move in to our area at any time.
If you have questions or concerns about anything going on near or on your property, please contact 911 immediately. If you see anything suspicious in the neighborhood or have concerns about non-life threatening instances, please complete a SAR report (Suspicious Activity Report) that you received when you signed up for the neighborhood watch and email it to us at sunsetvillageneighborhood@hotmail.com and we will respond as quickly as possible. Please remember to include as much descriptive information as possible about the incident.
Thanks,
Rebecca
